Aim To enable participants to appreciate covert CHIS and/or surveillance activity in line with current legislation and policy.
Objectives
At the end of the course delegates will be able to: · State the key pieces of legislation that relate to covert activity. · Explain key terms including Necessary, Proportionality and Collateral intrusion. · Assess the potential implications of the Human Rights Act 1998 on surveillance and/or CHIS. · Consider the operational impact of current legislation, policies and procedures. · The requirements of reviewing and cancelling authorisations in accordance with current policies. · Discuss the importance of keeping accurate records.
Who should attend? This course is aimed at anyone, including operatives or senior management who are required to have an understanding of the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000, including, Directed Surveillance and/or Covert Human Intelligence Sources (CHIS).
