Welcome!

The Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000 (RIPA) and the Scottish equivalent, the Regulation of Investigatory Powers (Scotland) Act (RIPSA) are complex pieces of legislation that are proving problematic for practitioners, managers and Authorising Officers alike.
(N.B. All further references to RIPA also include RIPSA)

Staff engaging in covert investigations are finding themselves under the microscope from the regulators including the Office of Surveillance Commissioners (OSC), the courts and more recently the media.

The consequences of getting it wrong can be dramatic including the removal of the powers conferred under RIPA or even the awarding of unlimited compensation to a person who convinces The Investigatory Powers Tribunal (IPT) that they have been the victim of erroneous RIPA activity.

Imagine a first-class training course that allows you to actually understand the legislation, it's links to the Human Rights Act and how to practically apply it so that if called to account you can clearly explain your rationale for obtaining (or not obtaining) an authority under RIPA. The Training Consultants Ltd offer exactly this for anyone who is involved in RIPA activity and we GUARANTEE to beat the price you have been quoted by any other training company, so you can rest assured that you are getting the best training at the best price.

Some other 'so called' RIPA training companies or consultants advocate that they can make you an expert in less than a day and that they can give you a list of examples which although meeting the requirements of the law don't need an authority, in order to reduce bureaucracy. Whilst that may sound appealing when you are called to account for your authority or lack of it will they be there to support you? Of course they won't. They will have cashed the cheque and gone!

This area of work is too important for you not to receive the highest quality of training and it is imperative you understand the law and how to apply it for yourself so you can defend you rationale should you need to - we will not compromise on that. And we will continue to support you after the training course has finished.

We are pleased to tailor-make RIPA training for public authorities so that it reflects the exact type of work that you do and we also offer specific training programmes for Authorising Officers, Gatekeepers or Applicants and awareness training for anyone who needs some knowledge of this legislation.  Once trained we are happy to support our clients with advice regarding the application of RIPA and operational activity.

We are pleased to be the supplier for ALL RIPA Authorising Officer training for Her Majesty's Prison Service of England & Wales.

We know that you are probably wondering what sets our trainers apart from the rest?

Well that's easy, all of our RIPA trainers hold training qualifications and our principal RIPA trainers are accredited to National Policing Improvements Agency (formerly Centrex) standards and regularly deliver training to police forces, law enforcement agencies and public authorities. Our trainers have all worked practically with RIPA and the Human Rights Act and a number of them have worked at the prestigious National Specialist Law Enforcement Centre (NSLEC) leading the way in developing and delivering nationally recognised RIPA training for the Police Service and law-enforcement agencies and formulating national policy. A number of them hold valid Security Clearance (SC) so you can discuss covert techniques without fear of compromise.

In fact (and this may surprise you) we have even written the training products for a number of our competitors who then charge you far more than we would for the same product!

Our RIPA training programmes are designed to use a variety of training methods which include practical exercises in the preparation of applications and authorisations not just to show you a presentation of what the law says, which is what some training companies will do.

In a survey conducted over the past 12 months, 99.8% of delegates stated they would recommend our training to others and 99.4% stated that our training would improve their work-place performance.

Recently there has been a significant increase in the number of Applicants, Gatekeepers and particularly Authorising Officers being called to court or tribunals to defend their RIPA applications and authorisations. We have personal experience of how difficult this situation can be and this is magnified if you do not know where the defence are likely to try to ambush you. This does not need to be a problem as we can use our barrister to conduct a courtroom scenario in order to provide you with the necessary knowledge and skills to prepare you to give evidence at a court or tribunal surrounding your RIPA application or authorisation.

Please see our RIPA Courses webpage for full details of these courses where the prices start from an amazing £42.50 per delegate.

Please take your time, browse our website and contact one of our friendly members of staff to discuss your requirements without any obligation and absolutely NO high-pressure selling or in the meantime try our online RIPA quiz to check your knowledge of this piece of legislation.
